The live English skills measured as of July 24 now organize Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals around five areas: business value at 5–10%, Power Platform environment at 20–25%, Power Apps at 20–25%, Power Automate at 20–25%, and agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio at 20–25%. The current PL-900 therefore gives agent capabilities a full domain and no longer uses the older standalone Power Pages domain.

Microsoft requires a score of 700 or greater to pass. The audience is people beginning their Power Platform journey and learning how low-code apps, automation, Dataverse, connectors, generative AI, and agents can improve business outcomes. It is a fundamentals exam, so candidates should understand value, use cases, and basic solution building rather than advanced development.

Business value is now 5–10%

The smallest domain covers the value of Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, connectors, Power Pages, generative AI features, and Copilot Studio. Power Pages still matters as a platform capability even though it no longer has its own exam domain.

A Power Platform fundamentals view should begin with business problems before selecting products.

The environment domain is 20–25%

This domain covers Dataverse plus administration and governance. Candidates should understand how Dataverse differs from a traditional database; tables, columns, relationships, forms, views, business logic, and Power Fx; and AI-assisted creation/editing of data structures.

Dataverse should be understood as a business-data platform with security, relationships, metadata, and app/automation integration.

Administration and governance are now more prominent

The current guide includes environments, the Power Platform security model, privacy/accessibility support, monitoring/analytics, and application lifecycle management with Power Platform pipelines.

This is an important 2026 shift: fundamentals now includes more platform-operations awareness rather than only end-user app features.

Power Apps remains 20–25%

Candidates should distinguish canvas apps, model-driven apps, Plan designer, and code apps by use case. The current guide also includes basic app creation through AI, including AI-assisted canvas/model-driven app creation and AI-powered “vibe” experiences.

An understanding of Power Apps should focus on which app type fits the data and user experience rather than memorizing every designer control.

Canvas and model-driven apps still solve different problems

Canvas apps emphasize flexible user-interface design and can connect to many data sources. Model-driven apps derive more of the experience from Dataverse data model, forms, views, and business process structure.

The current scope adds newer planning/code/AI experiences, but the core design distinction remains valuable.

Power Automate is 20–25%

The blueprint covers cloud flows and desktop flows, approvals, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, Forms, and document automation. Candidates should understand connector triggers/actions and AI-assisted creation/modification of both cloud and desktop flows.

A Power Automate foundation is strongest when a workflow is described as trigger → conditions/actions → outcome rather than a collection of templates.

Cloud flows and desktop flows target different automation surfaces

Cloud flows connect cloud services and APIs around automated, instant, or scheduled events. Desktop flows automate user-interface or desktop processes where APIs may not be available.

The business requirement should decide the automation type, especially when reliability, credentials, and unattended execution matter.

Copilot Studio agents are now a full 20–25% domain

The current exam includes agent use cases, topics/conversation paths, knowledge sources, tools including MCP servers and agent flows, publishing channels, Microsoft Agent 365, usage/adoption monitoring, and agent evaluations.

This is one of the clearest differences between older PL-900 material and the July 2026 exam.

Agent management is more than building a chatbot

Agents need approved knowledge, tools, channels, monitoring, governance, and evaluation. The exam now asks candidates to understand how agents act and how organizations manage their usage rather than treating Copilot Studio as a simple question-and-answer bot designer.

Generative AI is therefore integrated across the platform, including apps, flows, Dataverse work, and agent creation.

The current scope is low-code plus governed AI

The PL-900 exam now reflects how Power Platform has evolved: business data in Dataverse, low-code apps, automation, environment governance, and AI agents operate together. Older materials that focus heavily on Power Pages or Power BI as standalone exam sections are no longer aligned to the July 24 blueprint.

The July 24 update represents more than a naming refresh. Microsoft reduced the business-value domain, increased environment/governance emphasis, adjusted Power Apps and Power Automate, removed the old standalone Power Pages section, and introduced a full Copilot Studio agents domain. Candidates using older PL-900 books should compare the table of changes before deciding what remains current.

Power Pages has not disappeared from the platform or from the exam entirely. It remains in the business-value objective as a way to build external-facing websites. What changed is the blueprint structure: candidates are no longer assessed through a separate Power Pages skills domain.

Power BI is likewise not a current standalone PL-900 domain in the July 2026 guide. Older versions of PL-900 gave broader treatment to Power BI capabilities. Current candidates should avoid spending disproportionate time on BI-specific modeling or reporting topics that are no longer listed as a main exam skill area.

Dataverse should be understood beyond “a database behind Power Apps.” Tables, columns, relationships, forms, views, business logic, security, and integration make it a business-data platform. Power Apps and Power Automate can use the same Dataverse data while respecting its model and permissions.

Traditional databases and Dataverse differ in audience and abstraction. Dataverse provides metadata, business logic, security, and platform integration designed for business applications, while a traditional relational database gives developers more direct database-level control. PL-900 asks for conceptual differences, not database-administration depth.

Power Fx appears as a business-logic option in Dataverse and Power Apps. Candidates should recognize it as Microsoft’s low-code formula language used to express logic in the platform. The exam does not require advanced formula engineering, but basic role and purpose matter.

AI-assisted table creation is another current freshness marker. Users can describe the data structure they need and use AI to help create or edit tables, columns, and relationships. The maker still needs to validate data types, relationships, security, and business meaning rather than accepting generated structure blindly.

Environments are governance boundaries for apps, flows, Dataverse, connections, and lifecycle. Organizations often separate development, test, and production so changes can be built and validated safely. The current guide also includes Power Platform pipelines as an application-lifecycle-management concept.

The Power Platform security model should be understood as layered: environment access, Dataverse security roles/privileges, table/row/column security concepts, and connector or service permissions can all influence a user’s experience. Fundamentals candidates should know that security is not one app-level password switch.

Monitoring and analytics are current administration objectives because low-code solutions become business applications that need ownership, usage visibility, and support. A flow or app that nobody monitors can fail silently or accumulate technical debt just like custom software.

Canvas apps are strongest when a maker needs a highly customized user experience across one or more data sources. Model-driven apps are strongest when Dataverse data model, forms, views, and business process structure should drive much of the experience. The exam expects use-case recognition.

Plan designer and code apps expand the set of Power Apps experiences beyond the older canvas/model-driven pair. The fundamentals goal is to recognize that Microsoft is offering more ways to plan or build applications while still connecting them to governed Power Platform data and lifecycle.

The “vibe” experience in the current guide reflects conversational AI-assisted app creation. Candidates should understand AI can help generate an application from intent, but makers remain responsible for validating functionality, data access, usability, and security.

Power Automate cloud flows can be automated, instant, or scheduled around connectors and events, while desktop flows support robotic process automation against desktop applications or user interfaces. The current guide explicitly includes AI-assisted creation and modification of both flow types.

Document automation and approvals remain useful use cases because they demonstrate how Power Automate coordinates Microsoft 365 services. A form submission can trigger an approval, update Dataverse or SharePoint, notify Teams/Outlook, and create an auditable process without a custom application.

Copilot Studio topics now include knowledge sources, topics/conversation paths, tools, MCP servers, agent flows, publishing channels, Agent 365, monitoring/adoption, and evaluations. This is much broader than the old Power Virtual Agents mental model of building a basic conversational bot.

MCP servers are included because agents increasingly need standardized access to external tools and context. At PL-900 depth, candidates should understand that tools extend what an agent can do and that permissions/governance still matter when an agent can take actions.

Agent evaluations should be understood as a quality-and-governance practice. Organizations need to test whether an agent produces useful, grounded, and safe behavior before trusting it broadly. Monitoring adoption then shows whether the solution is actually used and where improvement is needed.

Microsoft Agent 365 appears in the current objective as part of agent management. Candidates should recognize it as an enterprise agent-management context rather than confuse it with building the agent conversation itself in Copilot Studio.

For final revision, use the current 5–10 / 20–25 / 20–25 / 20–25 / 20–25 weighting. If your notes still have major Power BI or Power Pages domains and no Copilot Studio agent domain, they are not aligned with the July 24, 2026 blueprint and should be updated before practice exams.

Within the broader Microsoft certification path, PL-900 is still a fundamentals credential. The strongest preparation is to map a business problem to the right Power Platform capability and explain why that capability fits.

PL-900 changed substantially in July 2026.
