The historical headline of this page announced the release of AZ-900 practice exams. That original announcement should not be interpreted as evidence that a new paid ExamLabs product is currently offered, or that any commercial question bank reproduces Microsoft’s confidential examination. In 2026, a useful practice resource must be evaluated against Microsoft’s active AZ-900 skills and by the quality of its explanations.
Microsoft’s July 20, 2026 guide assigns 25–30% to cloud concepts, 35–40% to Azure architecture/services and 30–35% to management/governance. Microsoft offers a free Practice Assessment and an exam sandbox. The five original questions below are learning exercises written to illustrate decisions, not official examination questions or claims about live test content.
Use practice for reasoning, not answer memorization
A good question provides a practical requirement and credible competing options. The explanation should identify which fact makes one answer preferable and why the other options miss the constraint. Repeated familiarity with fixed answer letters may improve a mock score without improving cloud judgment.
Microsoft currently lists 45 minutes for the fundamentals assessment, while question count may vary. A practice provider’s exact number of items or passing percentage should not be treated as a guaranteed prediction of an official score.
Practice question 1: customer responsibility
A company hosts its internally developed application on an Azure virtual machine. Who is normally responsible for updating the guest operating system? (A) Microsoft manages the guest OS entirely. (B) The customer manages and patches its guest OS. (C) The internet service provider patches the VM. (D) No patching is needed because the VM runs in Azure.
Best answer: B. Infrastructure as a service gives the customer control and responsibility for the guest OS while Microsoft operates the underlying infrastructure. A managed platform could shift more duties, but simply moving a self-managed VM to Azure does not eliminate them.
When solving a similar scenario, change the service model and ask which operational layers remain with the customer. That tests understanding of shared responsibility instead of recognition of a word.
Practice question 2: location and resilience
A company needs data hosted in an approved geography and wants to withstand a failure in one supported datacenter zone. Which concepts most directly address those requirements? (A) Resource tags and a budget. (B) Regions and availability zones. (C) Managed identities and licensing. (D) Resource groups and a cost alert.
Best answer: B. Region selection addresses geographic placement; availability zones provide supported separation within a region. The company still has to verify whether chosen services and configurations support its resilience objectives. A zone configuration is not a promise that every application dependency will survive.
Budget alerts and resource groups are helpful but do not directly establish the described geography or failure-domain design. Read the requirement before selecting a familiar service name.
Practice question 3: identity and authorization
An engineer can sign in to a Microsoft Entra tenant but cannot modify a production Azure resource group. What should the team investigate? (A) The user’s effective Azure RBAC role assignments. (B) The storage redundancy setting. (C) The selected availability zone. (D) The company’s pricing offer.
Best answer: A. Authentication succeeded; the missing capability concerns authorization for Azure resource operations at the relevant scope. A Microsoft Entra directory role and an Azure RBAC role are not identical.
If the user could not sign in at all, identity policies would deserve attention first. Altering a scenario’s condition teaches when another answer becomes correct.
Practice question 4: repeatable and governed deployment
A team wants to deploy the same set of application resources repeatedly while preventing deployment into unapproved regions. Which statement best fits? (A) Cost Management alone deploys and enforces all resources. (B) Declarative deployment defines resources, while Azure Policy can enforce supported configuration rules. (C) Availability zones replace resource authorization. (D) Monitoring logs automatically prevent unauthorized resource creation.
Best answer: B. Azure Resource Manager templates or Bicep describe infrastructure; Azure Policy governs supported resource properties. The Azure Resource Manager deployment context is useful for this distinction.
A historical course might mention Azure Blueprints as the general packaged governance service. Microsoft is retiring it in phases through January 2027 and recommends deployment stacks and template specs for replacement capabilities. Avoid learning a retired default solely from old promotional material.
Practice question 5: consumption-based costs
A test VM runs all week but is used only on two afternoons. What is a sensible first action to investigate avoidable spending? (A) Inspect usage and assess whether the VM can be resized or safely stopped when idle. (B) Increase its size. (C) Buy unrelated licenses. (D) Disable monitoring and assume billing stops.
Best answer: A. Resource cost depends on metered usage and selected services. Right-sizing or scheduling may help, but storage, backups and other associated charges can remain when compute is stopped. Azure Cost Management alerts assist visibility; they are not universal spending caps.
The right decision depends on the system’s availability needs. If the environment must remain online to support testing, a planned stop window could cause operational harm despite savings.
Use mistakes to choose what to study next
For every incorrect answer, write down the misunderstanding: identity versus authorization, region versus availability zone, monitoring versus governance, or virtual-machine responsibility versus managed services. Then change one requirement and explain whether the preferred solution changes.
The AZ-900 scenario reasoning and safe AZ-900 hands-on examples may help after a diagnostic reveals an actual gap. Do not manufacture a link or an exercise solely to inflate a checklist.
When considering a paid provider, verify current syllabus date, supported explanation depth, access terms and refunds. The Microsoft AZ-900 exam commercial destination is not Microsoft’s official study guide. Success is measured by explaining unfamiliar requirements, not by memorizing repeated answers.
